Toyota Tire Fitment Hub | Tacoma, 4Runner, Land Cruiser Guides

⚡ WHAT THIS PAGE IS

The master index of Battle Born Clothing's Toyota tire fitment guides. Find the right guide for your truck: Tacoma, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, or Land Cruiser. Stock, lifted, and committed 35″ builds all covered. Every guide is community-verified with real build data, not speculation.

Every Toyota platform has a different tire fitment answer. What fits a 3rd gen Tacoma doesn't fit a 5th gen 4Runner. What works on a solid-axle 80 Series Land Cruiser is the opposite of what works on an IFS 100 Series. We've built out the complete collection of fitment guides for every major Toyota 4x4 platform from 1990 through today. Each guide is based on community data from IH8MUD, Trail 4Runner, Trail Tacoma, Expedition Portal, and verified real-world builds.

Pick your truck below. Each card links to the definitive fitment guide for that platform.

Toyota Tacoma Fitment Guides

The Tacoma is the most popular off-road Toyota in North America. Fitment varies significantly between generations due to IFS geometry changes and cab mount positioning.

3RD & 4TH GEN TACOMA

2016–Present

Stock max: 275/70R17 (32″). Leveled: 285/70R17 (33″). 3″ lift: 285/75R17 or 33x12.50R17. UCA rub is the primary limiter.

2ND GEN TACOMA

2005–2015

Stock max: 265/75R16 (31.7″). Smaller cab mount vs 3rd gen makes 33s easier to fit. No-lift: 285/75R16 (32.8″) with mud flap delete.

Toyota 4Runner Fitment Guides

The 4Runner shares most of its fitment math with the Tacoma, but the longer wheelbase and different body styling change the rear clearance story. The 5th and 6th gen fitment stories diverge meaningfully.

5TH GEN 4RUNNER

2010–2024

Stock max: 275/70R17 (32.2″). 2″ lift: 285/70R17 clears clean. 3″ lift: 33s and beyond require BMC.

6TH GEN 4RUNNER

2025+ Trailhunter & TRD Pro

The all-new Trailhunter and TRD Pro chassis. 33s stock on Trailhunter. Higher fitment ceiling than 5th gen thanks to updated body geometry.

Toyota FJ Cruiser & Land Cruiser Fitment Guides

The Land Cruiser lineage splits fitment behavior into two eras: solid-axle (80 Series and earlier) and IFS (100 Series, FJ Cruiser, 200 Series). Solid axles fit 33s easier. IFS trucks have UCA and cab mount clearance issues at 33s+. Pick the guide that matches your chassis.

FJ CRUISER

2007–2014

Stock max: 265/70R17 (31.6″). With Spidertrax spacers + BMC: 33x12.50R17 fits stock suspension. Unique rear-mounted door hinge matters for full-lock clearance.

80 SERIES LAND CRUISER

1990–1997 FJ80 / FZJ80

Solid front axle, 4.5″ stock backspacing. Stock max: 285/75R16 (32.8″). 2″ lift: 315/75R16 (35″). 4.88 regear required past 33s.

The Three Variables Every Fitment Question Comes Down To

Every Toyota tire fitment answer is built on three variables. Understand these and you can predict fitment on any chassis:

VARIABLE WHAT IT CONTROLS WHY IT MATTERS
Tire Height Vertical clearance at full compression Tall tires hit the fender lip and firewall. Lifting doesn't help at full compression.
Tire Width Lateral clearance at full lock Wide tires hit the UCA and body mount chop. Width problems need spacers, wheel offset, or BMC.
Wheel Offset Tire position within the wheel well Positive offset tucks the tire in toward the UCA. Negative offset pushes it out toward the fender.

Most Toyota IFS platforms (Tacoma, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, 100 Series) run into width problems first on 33s. Most solid-axle platforms (80 Series) run into height problems first. Choose your tire size with the correct limiting variable in mind.

Quick-Reference Frequently Asked Questions

What's the biggest tire I can fit on my Toyota without a lift?

Depends on the truck. 3rd/4th gen Tacoma: 275/70R17 stock, 285/70R17 with 2″ level. 5th gen 4Runner: same. FJ Cruiser: 265/70R17 stock, 33x12.50R17 with Spidertrax spacers and BMC. 80 Series: 285/75R16 stock. 100 Series: 285/75R16 stock. Each platform has its own fitment ceiling. Click the specific guide for your truck above.

Do I need to regear for 33-inch tires?

Usually not strictly required for modern V6 Toyotas on 33″ tires. You'll notice slight acceleration loss and possibly 0.5–1 mpg lower fuel economy. For 35s, regearing to 4.88 becomes essentially mandatory because factory gearing can't pull the taller tires without transmission strain. The 80 Series on 33s handles it okay with stock 4.111 gears; on 35s, 4.88 is the standard.

What is a body mount chop (BMC)?

Cutting away the factory metal bracket where the body meets the frame at the front wheel well. With 33s and 35s on an IFS Toyota, the tire hits this mount at full steering lock before anything else. C4 Fabrication makes a bolt-in replacement mount that preserves structural integrity. DIY with a cutoff wheel works but requires cavity wax treatment to prevent rust.

Is 285/75R17 really a 33-inch tire?

Not quite. A 285/75R17 measures 33.8″ in overall diameter, closer to a true 34″ tire. The 33x12.50R17 is an actual measured 33″. This is a critical distinction when planning fitment. For full dimensional breakdown, see our 285/75R17 vs 33x12.50R17 comparison.

Should I get a 2-inch lift or a 3-inch lift?

Depends on what tires you want. 2″ level is sufficient for 33s on most modern IFS Toyotas with supporting trimming. 3″ lift is required for 35s (plus BMC, UCAs, and supporting mods). Over-lifting past what your tires need hurts ride quality and highway manners. Size the lift to the tires, not the reverse.

Do I need aftermarket upper control arms?

Above 2″ of lift on IFS Toyotas: yes. Factory UCAs have fixed caster geometry. Lifting pushes caster negative, causing vague steering and front tire wear. SPC Performance 25480 is the community benchmark. Alternatives: Total Chaos, Camburg, Dirt King. Budget $450–$900 for the pair.
