A solid axle (live axle, beam axle) is a rigid one-piece housing connecting both wheels. Unlike independent front suspension (IFS), a solid front axle keeps both wheels on the same plane — more ground clearance under the differential, better articulation over obstacles, and simpler construction that's easier to rebuild after hard use. There's a reason every serious rock crawler, trail rig, and expedition vehicle either came with a solid axle or got swapped to one.
