Choosing a Custom Trucker Cap by Industry: What We Recommend and Why

The question we get asked most is simply “which hat should we do?” The honest answer depends far less on taste than people expect and far more on what the cap has to survive.

Here is how we actually match the three caps to the work.

“Tell us the job before you tell us the logo. The job picks the blank.”

— Battle Born Clothing, Yerington NV

Construction, trades and mining

Cap: Richardson 112. Decoration: embroidery or a stitched leather patch.

These caps get crushed, soaked, sat on and worn daily for years. That rules out transfers for the primary mark and rules in stitching. The 112 wins here on sizing — crews have a wide range of head sizes and the XL matters.

High-contrast colour helps on a jobsite. If your crew needs hi-vis headwear, tell us and we will source into that rather than decorating a standard cap.

Ranch and agriculture

Cap: Richardson 112 in earth tones, or Yupoong 6606 if camo suits the brand. Decoration: laser-engraved leather patch.

This is the classic leather patch customer, and for good reason: the look matches the work, and a patch survives sun and sweat better than a printed mark. Veg-tan leather on a khaki, loden or brown cap is the combination we run most.

Guiding, hunting and outfitting

Cap: Yupoong 6606. Decoration: embroidery or a leather patch.

This is the one category where the cap choice is not really debatable. The 6606 is stocked in licensed Kryptek, Multicam and Veil patterns, and nothing in the Richardson line replaces them. The poly-rich front also holds colour better through hard sun than a cotton-rich one.

Race teams, car clubs and powersports

Cap: Yupoong 6609. Decoration: embroidery, large patch, or DTF for sponsor colour.

Flat bill, high profile, room for big artwork and sponsor marks on the side panels. This is also the category where DTF earns its place, because sponsor logos arrive as full-colour files and often change between seasons.

For club and crew apparel beyond caps, we run the same artwork across tees and hoodies so a team looks like a team.

Restaurants, breweries and coffee

Cap: any of the three, driven by the brand. Decoration: woven label or embroidery.

Here the cap is often retail as much as uniform, so design leads. Woven labels suit the detailed, typographic logos this sector tends to have, and they read more considered than a big stitched mark.

Practical note: front-of-house caps get washed more than jobsite caps. Poly-rich fronts hold colour better through repeated washing.

Corporate gifting and onboarding

Cap: Richardson 112. Decoration: embroidery or leather patch.

For a welcome kit or a client gift, the cap has to look worth keeping. The 112’s colour range makes brand matching realistic, and the size split means you are not handing a senior client a cap that does not fit.

These orders are usually recurring, so they suit a stored artwork file and a standing reorder more than a one-off quote.

Schools, leagues and family events

Cap: Richardson 112 with 112Y for youth. Decoration: embroidery, or DTF for short runs with lots of variants.

The youth cap is the deciding factor. Matching adult and youth caps is straightforward in the Richardson line and not possible in the Yupoongs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best custom cap for a construction crew?

The Richardson 112 with embroidery or a stitched leather patch. It is the only one of the three with an XL size, which matters across a crew, and stitched decoration survives daily abuse far better than a heat-pressed transfer.

Which trucker cap comes in camo?

The Yupoong 6606. It is stocked in licensed Kryptek, Multicam and Veil patterns. Neither the Richardson 112 nor the Yupoong 6609 has an equivalent camo range.

What cap is best for a race team?

The Yupoong 6609. The flat bill and high profile give you the most room for large artwork, and the side panels take sponsor marks well. DTF suits sponsor logos because they arrive as full-colour files and change between seasons.

Which cap should I choose for corporate gifts?

The Richardson 112. It has by far the widest colour range of the three, which makes brand matching realistic, and the M/L and XL split means recipients actually get a cap that fits.

Can you match adult and youth caps for a school order?

Yes, using the Richardson 112 and the 112Y youth version. They share the silhouette so the decoration matches across both. Neither Yupoong offers a youth cap in this family.
