Richardson 112 vs Yupoong 6606 vs 6609: An Honest Trucker Cap Comparison

These three caps cover most of the custom trucker work that comes through our shop, and we genuinely like all of them. They are not interchangeable, though. The differences look small on a spec sheet and become obvious the moment you put a leather patch, a dense stitch count or a heat press on them.

This is the comparison we would give you over the counter: no winner, just the honest trade-offs.

“Nobody walks in asking for a 74/26 poly front. They ask for a hat that looks right and lasts. The blend is how we get them there.”

— Battle Born Clothing, Yerington NV

The short version

  • Richardson 112 — cotton-rich front, curved bill, mid profile, and the deepest colour range of the three. Our default when someone wants a classic trucker that suits almost anybody.
  • Yupoong 6606 — poly-rich front, curved bill, mid profile, and the only one of the three with real camo patterns. The hunting, guiding and outfitter crowd asks for it by name.
  • Yupoong 6609 — poly-rich front, flat bill, high profile. A taller front panel and a flat brim, which changes what artwork fits and who wants to wear it.

Every one of the three is a structured six-panel with a mesh back and a snapback closure. Structured means a stiffened front panel that holds its shape, which is what makes all three good candidates for embroidery and patches in the first place.

The fabric difference is the one that matters

The 112 runs a 60/40 cotton/polyester front. Both Yupoongs run 74/26 polyester/cotton. That flips the blend, and it shows up in three places.

Under a heat press

Polyester-rich fronts carry more disperse dye, and disperse dye moves when you heat it. On strong colours — reds, maroons, navies — a poly-rich cap is more likely to push colour up into a light transfer over the following days. It is manageable with a lower temperature, a shorter dwell and a blocking layer, but the cotton-rich 112 simply gives us more margin when we are pressing DTF onto a dark cap.

Under a needle

Poly is smoother and more uniform, and dense fill stitching tends to lay a little flatter on the Yupoongs. Cotton-rich fabric has more tooth, which gives small text a fraction more grip but also punishes a badly digitised file faster. Neither is better; they just want slightly different underlay.

Over time

Poly-rich fronts hold colour longer in hard sun and shrug off sweat staining better, which is why they do well on ranch and guide crews. Cotton-rich fronts break in softer and take on that worn look people actually want from a trucker cap.

Bill shape changes the artwork, not just the look

The 112 and 6606 both have a curved bill. The 6609 is flat, and that is not a style detail you can ignore when you are laying out a design.

  • A flat bill with a high profile front gives you noticeably more usable vertical space on the front panel. Tall logos, stacked lettering and larger leather patches fit on a 6609 that would crowd a 112.
  • A curved bill and mid profile reads more traditional and suits wide, short logos — the shape most company marks already are.
  • Flat bills also invite decoration on the bill itself, which is far easier to hoop and press flat than a curved one.

If your logo is wider than it is tall, the 112 or 6606 will frame it better. If it is tall, stacked, or you want a big statement patch, look hard at the 6609.

Sizing is the 112’s real advantage

The 112 comes in M/L and XL. Both Yupoongs are one size adjustable. On a crew of any size that difference is the one people feel, because one-size snapbacks leave the largest heads in the crew uncomfortable all day.

Worth knowing: the XL only exists in a short colour run — black, black/charcoal, heather grey/black, heather grey/white and navy. If you need XL in your company colour, that will steer the whole order, so tell us early.

Richardson also makes a youth 112 (the 112Y), which matters for school, league and family-event orders where the Yupoongs have no youth equivalent.

Colour range is not close

Our supplier stocks around 115 colourways in the 112, 58 in the 6606 and 9 in the 6609. If you are matching a brand palette, the 112 usually gets you there without compromise.

The 6606 wins one category outright: genuine licensed camo. Kryptek, Multicam and Veil patterns are stocked in the 6606 and nothing in the 112 line replaces them. For outfitters, guides and hunting clubs that is the whole conversation.

How we actually choose

  • Company cap for a mixed crew — 112, for the XL and the colour match.
  • Hunting, guiding, outfitting — 6606 in a camo pattern.
  • Big leather patch or a tall stacked logo — 6609.
  • Younger crowd, streetwear look, skate or moto — 6609 flat bill.
  • Schools, leagues, family events with kids — 112 and 112Y so the youth caps match.
  • Dark cap with a light full-colour transfer — 112, for the extra margin against dye migration.

None of that is a rule. Bring us the artwork and the head count and we will tell you which of the three we would run and why.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Richardson 112 better than the Yupoong 6606?

Neither is better across the board. The 112 has a cotton-rich front, far more colours and an XL size. The 6606 has a poly-rich front that holds colour longer in the sun, and it is the only one of the two offered in licensed camo patterns like Kryptek and Multicam. We run both every week.

What is the difference between the Yupoong 6606 and 6609?

Same 74/26 polyester/cotton front and mesh back, but the 6606 is mid profile with a curved Permacurv bill and the 6609 is high profile with a flat bill. The 6609 gives you more vertical room on the front panel, which suits tall logos and larger leather patches.

Do any of these caps come in an XL?

Only the Richardson 112, and only in a limited colour run: black, black/charcoal, heather grey/black, heather grey/white and navy. Both Yupoongs are one size adjustable.

Which trucker cap is best for a leather patch?

All three take a leather patch well. The 6609 gives you the most usable area because of the high profile and flat bill, so it suits a larger patch. The 112 is the safer choice if you want a classic proportion or need to match a brand colour.

Is there a minimum order on custom trucker caps?

No. Embroidery, leather patches and DTF transfers have no minimum at our shop, so a single cap is fine. Screen printing is the only method with a minimum, at 48 pieces, and it is not a method we use on structured caps.

How long do custom caps take?

Standard turnaround is 10 to 14 business days from an approved proof. We are in the Nevada rurals, so that window includes getting blanks in and getting your order back out.
