Custom Leather Patches
Short answer: we cut and laser-engrave custom leather patches in house on our CO2 laser, in real or vegan leather, in almost any shape. A patch runs $4–$8 depending on size and shape, and sewing it on instead of bonding it is $4 more. They go on hats, beanies, jackets and bags, and there is no minimum.
A leather patch looks made, not printed. The laser burns your logo into the surface, so it has depth you can feel, and on real leather it ages instead of cracking. The same laser cuts the outline, so the patch can follow the shape of your logo instead of sitting in a plain rectangle.
Leather Patch Pricing

Shapes and Sizes
Because the laser cuts as well as engraves, the shape is up to you:
- Rectangle and rounded rectangle. The classic. Easy to read, easy to line up.
- Circle and oval. Good for badge-style logos and round marks.
- Shield. A strong look for crews, departments and outdoor brands.
- State outlines. The Nevada shape is a customer favorite.
- Custom die-cut. The cut follows the outline of your logo.
On a trucker cap front, patches typically run 2.5 to 3.5 inches wide. For jackets, bags and beanies, we size the patch to the spot it goes on and show it on your proof.
Real Leather vs Vegan Leather
| Real leather | Vegan (faux) leather | |
|---|---|---|
| Engrave | Darker, deeper contrast | Lighter contrast |
| Look | Natural grain, every patch a little different | Consistent color piece to piece |
| Over time | Ages and picks up character | Stays the same until it wears |
| Common use | Premium crew gear, gifts, workwear | Retail runs that need a uniform look |
We go deeper on the difference in real leather vs faux leather patches.
What Leather Patches Go On
- Hats. The most popular use by far. Truckers, rope caps, 5-panels and more. See custom leather patch hats and all patch hats.
- Beanies. A small patch on the cuff. See custom beanies.
- Jackets. Chest or sleeve on canvas and workwear jackets. See custom jackets and Carhartt workwear.
- Bags. Totes and backpacks. See tote bags and backpacks.
Sending your own caps or garments? We can apply patches to customer-supplied items after we look at how they are built.
How the Patch Attaches
| Method | Best for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Bonded (heat-applied industrial adhesive) | Our standard on hats. Clean, flat finish. | Included |
| Sewn on | The traditional stitched look you can see and feel | +$4 each |
| Iron-on backing | Loose patches you plan to apply yourself | Quoted |
| Hook-and-loop | Bags, vests and gear where the patch comes off | Ask for a quote |
Not sure which method fits a jacket, bag or other item? Ask us. We will tell you what holds up on that material before you order.
Artwork That Engraves Well
Laser engraving is a one-color burn. The laser darkens the leather, so your logo shows up as dark on the natural leather color. That changes how you should think about the art:
- Contrast beats color. Colors and gradients do not carry over. Design it as solid black and white.
- Bold lines win. Hairlines get lost in the grain. Keep strokes thick enough to read from arm's length.
- Keep text short and big. One name and one tagline reads better than a paragraph.
- Skip photos. Photo gradients do not translate to a single burn.
- Think about the shape. A die-cut outline that follows the logo looks intentional.
- Send vector art. AI, EPS, PDF or SVG is best. We can redraw a raster logo for a small fee, or our design team can clean it up.
Leather vs Embroidered vs Woven Patches
Leather holds fine lines well, but it is one color. Embroidered patches give you thread colors and a raised look, though tiny text gets lost. Woven patches hold the finest detail of all and stay flat. Compare all three in which patch type belongs on your cap, or see every option on our custom patches page.
Production is 10–14 business days from your approved proof, plus shipping. We decorate in Yerington, Nevada and ship nationwide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do custom leather patches cost?
Laser-engraved leather patches are $4–$8 each depending on size and shape. Sewing the patch on instead of bonding it adds $4 per piece. The hat or garment is priced separately.
Is there a minimum order for leather patches?
No minimum. We will make a single patch hat, and per-piece pricing improves at 12, 48 and 144 pieces.
Real leather or vegan leather?
Real leather engraves darker and ages with character. Vegan leather is more consistent piece to piece and is common for retail runs.
Can I order loose leather patches without a hat?
Yes. Tell us the size, quantity and backing you want in the quote form and we will quote it.
Will a bonded leather patch fall off?
Our bonded patches use an industrial adhesive. If you want the stitched look or extra peace of mind, choose sewn on for $4 more per piece.
What artwork works best for leather patches?
Bold vector line art and simple type. Engraving is a single-tone burn, so gradients, photos and hairline detail do not translate well.
