Peter Millar vs TravisMathew: Which Premium Golf Polo Is Right for Your Team?

Short answer: Peter Millar and TravisMathew are both premium golf polos, and either one makes a great team or client shirt. Peter Millar leans classic and traditional. TravisMathew leans relaxed Southern California. The practical difference for most teams is sourcing: Battle Born Clothing decorates TravisMathew through our regular suppliers with no minimum on embroidery, but we do not carry Peter Millar. Peter Millar runs its own corporate logo program, so if your group is set on it, ask us and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

This question comes up when tournament committees, golf clubs and companies pick a premium shirt for players or clients. Here is a straight comparison from a custom apparel shop, including what we can and cannot get for you.

Peter Millar: The Classic Choice

Peter Millar is a Raleigh, North Carolina brand founded in 2001. Its styling is traditional: clean collars, refined colors, and a look that fits a private club as well as a client dinner.

For logo orders, Peter Millar's own help center says it offers embroidery services for custom logos and points buyers to its Corporate Orders page. It also asks for logos in DST format and offers to convert files that are not. In other words, Peter Millar is set up to handle logo work itself or through its own channels.

That is the honest reason we do not list it. Battle Born Clothing buys blanks from S&S Activewear, SanMar and a few brands direct. Peter Millar is not one of the brands we carry right now. If a client or your club insists on Peter Millar, call us. We will check whether we can source it for your order, and if we cannot, we will say so instead of guessing.

TravisMathew: The Relaxed Premium Choice

TravisMathew is based in Huntington Beach, California, and describes its style as inspired by the laid-back yet active Southern California lifestyle. The polos look at home on the course and at a brewery after, which is why companies like them for outings and client gifts.

A good example is the TravisMathew Coto Performance Polo (TM1MU410). Per its distributor spec sheet it is 100% polyester at 4.1 ounces, with four-way stretch, wrinkle resistance and quick-drying performance. It carries a printed TM logo at the center back neck and a woven TM label on the left sleeve.

TravisMathew also runs its own corporate sales program for staff uniforms, outings and gifting, offering embroidery, patches, screen printing or a leather stamp. You can go direct, or order through us and get your logo stitched in our shop with the rest of your event gear. See the styles we decorate on our custom TravisMathew polos page.

Logo Placement on Premium Golf Polos

Premium brands put their own marks on the shirt, and your logo has to work around them. That matters more than most buyers expect.

  • Left chest. The standard spot for your logo on either brand.
  • Sleeves. On the TravisMathew Coto, the left sleeve already has a woven TM label, so a sleeve logo goes on the right.
  • Back yoke. The Coto has a printed TM logo at the center back neck. A back yoke logo has to sit clear of it, or move lower.
  • Peter Millar. Placement depends on the style and on Peter Millar's own program. Ask us before you design around it.

Light performance polos also need careful embroidery. We digitize for knit performance fabric and keep logos moderate in size so the shirt does not pucker. Read more about embroidery thread types and embroidery digitizing.

Price and Brand Pricing Rules

Both brands sit at the premium end of the golf polo market, well above performance basics like Port Authority. TravisMathew sets the price its shirts can be advertised at, and we follow that, so your quote shows the brand price plus decoration. We do not advertise discounts on it.

Decoration (as of October 2026) Starting price
Left chest embroidery, 12 to 47 polos About $6 per polo
Left chest embroidery, 48 or more About $5.50 per polo
