Jersey vs Fleece vs Sherpa Lined Beanies: Which Lining Should Your Logo Go On?
Share
Short answer: pick a jersey lined beanie (Sportsman SP12JL) for everyday comfort with no itch, a fleece lined beanie (SP12FL) for outdoor crews and real cold, and a sherpa lined beanie (SP12SL) when you want the warmest, plushest hat as a gift or retail piece. All three are the same 12-inch cuffed shape, so your logo is embroidered on the cuff the same way on each. In our store the blanks start at $7.72, $7.94 and $8.04.

Jersey Lining: Comfort First
A jersey lining is the same kind of knit as a T-shirt, sewn inside the beanie. Its main job is comfort: plain acrylic knit can itch on the forehead, and the smooth jersey stops that. It adds a little warmth without making the hat thick, so people wear it all day, indoors and out. That makes it a strong choice for uniforms, school spirit wear and customer gifts. More in jersey lined beanies.
Fleece Lining: Built for Cold Work
Polyester fleece traps air, so a fleece lined beanie is noticeably warmer than jersey and handles wind better. The SP12FL also comes in hi-vis Safety Yellow, Neon Green and Blaze Orange, which matters for road crews, construction, mining and hunting. If your people work outside in a Nevada winter, start here. Sherpa Lining: The Warmest and Plushest
Sherpa is a thick, fuzzy polyester pile, like the inside of a winter jacket collar. The SP12SL feels heavier and more premium than the other two, which is why it works as a gift or a retail beanie. It can be too warm for indoor wear or active work.
Does the Lining Change How the Logo Looks?
No. On all three, the logo is embroidered on the cuff, and the cuff looks the same from the outside. What changes is the feel and the warmth. For a rugged, outdoor look, a laser-engraved leather patch on a fleece or sherpa beanie is a popular combination.
How We Decorate Beanies
Every beanie is embroidered in our shop in Yerington, Nevada. The logo goes on the cuff, the folded band at the front, which gives a flat surface about 2" tall. We digitize your logo for knit (stitch density and underlay are set differently than for a cap or polo) so it sits flat and does not sink into the knit.
- Flat embroidery is the standard. Knit fabric does not hold 3D puff foam, so we do not recommend puff on beanies.
- Laser-engraved leather patch is the other option and looks great on chunky and lined beanies. See custom leather patches.
- Thin lines and tiny text get lost in a knit. Keep lettering bold and at least about 0.25" tall.
Pricing for decoration is on our pricing page; embroidery and leather patches have no minimum. Standard turnaround is about three weeks from an approved proof, and rush is available for a fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which is warmer, a fleece or sherpa lined beanie?
Sherpa is warmer. The thick sherpa pile traps more air than fleece. Fleece is still much warmer than a jersey lining or an unlined beanie.
Are jersey lined beanies warm?
They are a little warmer than an unlined beanie. A jersey lining is mainly for comfort: it stops the knit from itching and is light enough to wear indoors.
Can you embroider a lined beanie?
Yes. We embroider the logo on the cuff exactly like a standard beanie. The lining does not change how the logo looks.
What is the best beanie for work crews?
A fleece lined beanie like the Sportsman SP12FL. It is warm, blocks wind and comes in hi-vis Safety Yellow, Neon Green and Blaze Orange.
Is there a minimum for custom embroidered beanies?
No. Embroidery and leather patches have no minimum at Battle Born Clothing.
