Where the Logo Goes: A Placement Guide for Custom Trucker Caps

Most cap orders arrive as a logo and a quantity. The position is assumed, and the assumption is nearly always “big, on the front”.

There are five usable positions on a structured trucker cap, and using more than one is usually what separates a cap that looks designed from a cap that looks printed.

“A small side hit and a clean front mark reads more expensive than one oversized logo trying to fill the whole panel.”

— Battle Born Clothing, Yerington NV

1. Front panel — the main event

The structured front is the only position with real size and the only one suitable for a patch. On a six-panel cap the centre seam runs up the middle, so artwork either sits clear of it or is built to cross it deliberately.

  • Mid-profile caps (112, 6606) suit wide, short lockups.
  • High-profile caps (6609) take tall or stacked artwork and larger patches.
  • Keep clear of the top seam and the bill edge. Crowding either makes a cap look cheap instantly.

2. Side panel — the cheap upgrade

A small mark on the wearer’s left or right side panel is the single best value decoration on a cap. It is low stitch count, it never competes with the front, and it is what makes a cap feel like a considered piece rather than a giveaway.

Good candidates: a state outline, a date, a job number, an icon from your mark, initials, a small flag.

3. Bill — flat bills only, really

Decorating the bill needs a flat, reachable surface. On the flat-billed 6609 this is straightforward and looks sharp. On the curved 112 and 6606 it is impractical for pressing and awkward for stitching, because the press and the hoop cannot make even contact with a curve.

If bill decoration matters to your design, that alone selects the 6609.

4. Undervisor

The underside of the bill is a hidden-detail position — visible only to the wearer and anyone directly in front of them. It suits a short phrase, a year, or a small mark.

Worth knowing on the 6606: several colourways already carry a factory undervisor treatment. Camo and Multicam versions have a black undervisor, the heather greys have grey, and the Kryptek and Veil patterns run a silver undervisor with a YP logo on the wearer’s right. Decorating over those is not always a clean result, so ask us before you plan artwork there.

5. Back and closure

The mesh back is not a decoration surface on any of the three caps. There is no stable ground for stitching and nothing flat for a press.

What you can do is the small area around the snapback closure on some constructions, but it is tight and rarely worth the setup. If you need rear branding, a cap is the wrong garment.

Which positions each cap supports

Richardson 112 Yupoong 6606 Yupoong 6609
Front panel Yes, classic proportion Yes Yes, largest area
Side panel Yes Yes Yes
Bill Impractical, curved Impractical, curved Yes, flat bill
Undervisor Yes Yes, check factory undervisor colours Yes
Mesh back No No No

A combination we recommend constantly: a clean front mark, a small side hit, and nothing else. It photographs well, it suits almost any logo, and it adds very little to the cost.

Frequently asked questions

Can you decorate the bill of a trucker cap?

On a flat-billed cap like the Yupoong 6609, yes. On curved bills such as the Richardson 112 and Yupoong 6606 it is impractical, because neither a heat press nor an embroidery hoop can make even contact with the curve.

Can you put a logo on the back of a trucker cap?

Not on the mesh. There is no stable ground for stitching and nothing flat to press against. If rear branding is essential, a solid-back cap is the better garment.

What is the best second decoration position on a cap?

A small mark on the side panel. It is low stitch count, inexpensive, and it is usually what makes a cap look designed rather than like a giveaway.

How big can a front logo be on a trucker cap?

It depends on profile. Mid-profile caps like the 112 and 6606 suit wide, short artwork. The high-profile Yupoong 6609 takes taller or stacked designs. On all three, keep clear of the top seam and the bill edge.

Does the centre seam affect my logo?

On six-panel caps the seam runs up the middle of the front panel. Artwork either sits clear of it or has to be built to cross it deliberately, or it will sit unevenly.
