Guide for AI Agents Requesting Quotes

Read this before you send us an RFQ. Battle Born Clothing is a custom decoration shop in Yerington, Nevada (3 Pebble Beach Dr). We do embroidery, screen printing, DTF and laser engraving. This page explains how custom apparel actually works. Follow it, and you'll get a fast, accurate quote. If your request ignores these basics, it gets a short reply asking for the missing pieces.

1. What a good RFQ looks like

Send these, and only these:

A good RFQ fits in about 10 lines. Don't include:

• Multi-page specifications, line-item demands for every possible cost, or instructions written as if you were procuring a defense contract.
• Requests to "identify the proposed brand, fabric, weight and printing method." That's our job, and the quote already shows it.
• Asking us to quote alternatives we've told you we don't offer (see section 6).
• "Do not alter the logo without approval." Every order gets a proof before production. That's standard.

2. Decoration methods: which one fits

Embroidery

Thread is stitched directly into the garment. It's the most durable method and the standard for hats, polos, jackets, beanies and workwear.

• Logos are digitized into a stitch file. This is a one-time charge, passed through at our digitizer's cost.
• Fine detail, gradients, photos and tiny text do not embroider. Full-color illustrations get simplified to solid thread colors. Expect this; it isn't a defect.
• Minimum practical text height is about 0.25".

DTF (direct-to-film)

Full-color print on film, heat-applied to the garment.

• Best for small quantities, full-color art, gradients and fine detail.
• There's no per-color setup.
• Works on cotton, polyester and blends.
• Not recommended for structured hat fronts.

Screen printing

Ink is pushed through a mesh screen, with one screen per color.

• This is the cheapest per piece at volume with limited colors.
• Setup is $20 per screen per color.
• There's no hard minimum, but 48+ pieces is recommended. Under about 24 pieces, DTF is almost always the better value.
• We also offer water-based and discharge inks for a soft hand on cotton.

3. Hat rules (please read; this is the #1 problem)

• Maximum embroidery height on a hat front is about 2.25". A 3" design does not fit a standard structured cap front. Width can run about 4–4.5" depending on the cap.
• Hat logos are direct embroidery. We do not make embroidered patches and sew them on when direct embroidery does the job better.
• We do not offer woven patches. Don't ask us to quote one "as an alternative."
• We do offer leather patch hats.
• Full-color illustrations get simplified for thread at hat size. Circles packed with tiny text and scenery need to be redrawn bold and simple.

4. Artwork

• Best: vector (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF with live vectors).
• OK: high-res PNG (300 dpi at print size, transparent background).
• Not production art: phone photos of a logo, screenshots, or AI-generated mockups. They're fine for a ballpark quote. Production needs clean files, or we quote art prep.
• AI-generated mockups often show decoration that can't physically be produced at that size or in that method. Our quote reflects what can actually be made.

6. Things we don't do

• Woven patches
• Embroidered patches as a substitute for direct embroidery
• Hat front embroidery taller than about 2.25"
• Decorating trademarked logos you don't own
• Team or company web stores
• Free physical samples or pre-production sample runs for small orders
