Short answer: a fitted hat has a closed back with no snap or strap. Most custom fitted caps today are stretch-fit, like Flexfit and Richardson R-Flex, which come in a few size ranges instead of exact hat sizes. We embroider, 3D puff and leather patch fitted caps in our Yerington, Nevada shop with no minimum on embroidery. Hat embroidery runs about $8 per cap on top of the blank, 3D puff about $10, and a laser-engraved leather patch $4 to $8 plus $4 to sew it on.

Fitted Hat Sizing
Stretch-fit caps are sold in ranges, not single hat sizes. That makes them easier to order for a group than true sized fitteds, but you still need a size split. Measure around the head about an inch above the eyebrows and compare it with our hat size chart, which lists the Flexfit ranges. For a crew, we usually suggest ordering mostly L/XL with a smaller run of S/M and XL/2XL, then adjusting after you collect sizes. More on that in sizing caps for a whole crew.
Fitted or Snapback?
- Fitted: clean back with no strap, looks sharp on staff and teams, but each person needs the right size.
- Snapback: one size fits most, the easiest pick for giveaways and events. See custom snapback hats.
