Custom Embroidered Patches: Iron-On, Sew-On and Velcro Backing, No Minimum

Short answer: a custom embroidered patch is your logo stitched in thread on a twill base, then finished with a border and a backing. Choose iron-on, sew-on or hook-and-loop (Velcro) backing and order the patches loose, or have us apply them to hats, jackets and bags. Embroidered patches are quoted per design, based on size, thread coverage, colors, backing and quantity, with no minimum.

What Goes Into an Embroidered Patch

Choice Options What it changes
Size Usually 2 to 4 inches for hats and chests; up to 10–12 inches for jacket backs The biggest price driver
Thread coverage Partial (twill shows through) up to 100% stitched More coverage means more stitches and a richer look
Border Merrowed (rolled edge) for simple shapes; cut or heat-cut edge for custom shapes Merrowed is the classic look; cut edges follow your logo outline
Colors Thread colors in the design More colors add setup and detail
Backing Sew-on, iron-on (heat-seal), hook-and-loop, or adhesive How it attaches; see the backing guide below

Embroidered vs Other Patch Types

Patch Best when Watch out for
Embroidered Bold logos, short text, classic textured look Very small text (under about 1/4 inch) fills in
Woven Small lettering and fine lines Flatter, less raised look
Leather Rugged, premium look on hats and workwear One-tone engraving, no color
PVC Waterproof, raised and tough Cannot be ironed on
Chenille Big varsity letters Needs larger sizes

Patch or Direct Embroidery?

If you only need your logo on one style of hat or jacket, direct embroidery is usually cheaper and faster: $6 a piece at 12–47 on our rate card below. Patches win when you want the same badge on many different items, a cut-edge shape, a bordered look, or something your team can put on later themselves. Compare in woven vs embroidered vs leather patches.

Popular Uses

  • Hats: embroidered patches on truckers, rope hats and 5-panels. See custom patch hats.
  • Uniform and name patches: company logo plus an employee name patch for work shirts and mechanic shirts.
  • Jackets: back patches and chest patches on Carhartt jackets and vests.
  • Clubs, crews and events: off-road clubs, fire departments, teams and merch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do custom embroidered patches cost?
They are quoted per design. Size, thread coverage, number of colors, border, backing and quantity set the price, and bigger runs cost less per patch.

What is the difference between an embroidered and a woven patch?
Embroidered patches use thicker thread for a raised, textured look. Woven patches use fine thread in a tight weave, so they hold small text and detail better but look flatter.

What backing should I choose?
Sew-on for uniforms and workwear, iron-on for easy at-home application on cotton and denim, and hook-and-loop for gear where you want to swap patches.

Can you put the patches on for me?
Yes. We apply patches to hats, jackets, bags and shirts, or ship them loose.

Is there a minimum order?
No minimum on embroidery or patches. Embroidery pricing drops at 12, 48, 60 and 80 pieces.

How long does it take?
Standard production is about 21 days (three weeks) from your approved proof, plus shipping. Rush production is available for a rush fee.

Do you ship outside Nevada?
Yes. We decorate in Yerington, Nevada and ship anywhere in the US.
